About this activity

Bali to Komodo Island Hopping: Nusa Penida, Gili Trawangan & Whale Sharks

Sail Through Indonesia’s Most Iconic Islands

Bali to Komodo Island Hopping: You leave Bali behind and cross into open water toward one of the world’s last true wildlife frontiers. This isn’t just a boat trip. It’s a journey through four unforgettable islands, each with its own story to tell.

First, you’ll reach Nusa Penida. Towering cliffs drop straight into turquoise water here, and manta rays glide beneath your boat. Next, you’ll drift toward Gili Trawangan, where white sand beaches and laid-back island life set the pace. Then, Sumbawa opens up — a quieter stop, but one that rewards you with untouched coastline and a true sense of remoteness. Finally, you’ll arrive in Komodo, home to the last living dragons on Earth.

Swim Alongside Gentle Giants

Along the way, you’ll get the chance to swim with whale sharks — the largest fish in the ocean, yet completely harmless to humans. Few travel experiences compare to floating just meters from a creature this size. Therefore, this stop alone makes the journey worth it for many guests.

Meet the Komodo Dragon Up Close

Once you reach Komodo National Park, your adventure shifts from water to land. Local rangers guide you through dry savanna trails, and with a bit of luck, you’ll spot Komodo dragons resting or hunting in their natural habitat. Meanwhile, the surrounding waters offer some of Indonesia’s best snorkeling, so pack your gear for both land and sea.

Why Choose Bali to Komodo Island Hopping Liveaboard Adventure

Comfort Meets Adventure

You won’t need to pack and unpack at every stop. Instead, your liveaboard becomes a floating home base, so you can relax between excursions and wake up to a new island each morning.

A Route Built for Wildlife Lovers

Unlike a single-destination trip, this island-hopping route connects four completely different ecosystems in one seamless journey. As a result, you get more variety, more wildlife encounters, and more photo opportunities than a standard day tour could ever offer.

Bali to Komodo Island Hopping Small Groups, Big Moments

Because our liveaboards keep group sizes small, you’ll never feel rushed. Instead, you can take your time at each stop, ask your guide questions, and soak in every moment.

Ready to trade your everyday view for cliffs, coral, and dragons? Book your Bali to Komodo island hopping adventure today and let the islands do the talking.

Frequently asked questions

How long does this island hopping trip take?

The trip covers four islands — Nusa Penida, Gili Trawangan, Sumbawa, and Komodo — so it typically runs over several days and nights. Check the itinerary for the exact day count of your chosen package.

Will I really see manta rays at Manta Point?

Manta ray sightings at Manta Point, Nusa Penida are common year-round, since the current there naturally attracts them to feed. That said, sightings still depend on ocean conditions, so our guides always pick the best timing to maximize your chances.

Where can I swim with turtles?

You'll get the chance to swim alongside sea turtles around Gili Trawangan, where the reef sits close to shore. Therefore, this stop works well even for less confident swimmers.

Will I really see whale sharks in Saleh Bay?

Saleh Bay in Sumbawa is one of Indonesia's most reliable spots for whale shark encounters, since local fishing platforms in the bay naturally attract them. However, we still can't guarantee a sighting on every trip, as it depends on the day's conditions.

Is it safe to swim with whale sharks?

Yes. Whale sharks are filter feeders and pose no danger to humans. Still, your guide will brief you on safety distance and proper etiquette before you enter the water.

Do I need diving experience for this tour?

No. Snorkeling gear is all you need for the manta, turtle, and whale shark encounters, so this trip suits both beginners and experienced snorkelers alike.

Is it safe to see Komodo dragons up close?

Yes. Licensed park rangers accompany every group inside Komodo National Park, and they maintain a safe distance while still giving you a close, memorable view of the dragons.

What's special about Pink Beach?

Pink Beach gets its color from tiny red coral fragments mixed into the white sand, so the shoreline takes on a soft pink hue. Beyond the beach itself, the surrounding waters also offer excellent snorkeling.

What's the accommodation like on the liveaboard?

You'll stay aboard the boat for the entire journey, so there's no need to pack and unpack at each stop. Cabin types vary by package tier, from shared bunks to private rooms.

What should I pack for this trip?

Pack reef-safe sunscreen, a swimsuit, light breathable clothing, and sturdy shoes for the Komodo trekking portion. Additionally, bring any personal medication, since some stops are far from towns and pharmacies.

What's the best time of year for this trip?

The dry season, roughly April through November, generally offers calmer seas and clearer water for snorkeling. Even so, whale shark and manta activity can shift slightly by month, so ask our team about current sighting trends before booking.

How is this different from the Komodo & Whale Shark Liveaboard Adventure?

This island-hopping route adds Nusa Penida, Gili Trawangan, and Sumbawa to the journey, so it covers more destinations and typically runs longer than our standalone Komodo & Whale Shark package. Choose this option if you want the full multi-island experience rather than a shorter, Komodo-focused trip.
